Modernization of local heating transfer stations

One of the three main locations of the Hohenstein-Ernstthal housing association is located in the south-east of the town of Hohenstein-Ernstthal. A total of 14 properties and around 500 residential units are supplied with local heating at this location. After 30 years of reliable operation, all 14 local heating transfer stations were due for modernization with new controllers from the Regin Group. Today, DEOS AG is the solution partner for the RU6 controllers from R+S used in the transfer station.

With this DEOS solution, WG HOT saves up to 20% energy and can adjust the controller settings itself.

“In this project, we were looking for a controller for the local heating transfer stations that would allow us, as end customers, to make the basic settings ourselves. This means we can make small changes to the heating curves or heating times ourselves and don’t have to call in a service provider, which is costly and involves long waiting times. With today’s solution, we can do a lot ourselves,” reports WG HOT managing director Mr. Blümel.

User-friendly and clear operation

The flexible RU6 DDC controller is powerful and can be used universally for energy-saving control of boilers, district heating, solar, heat pumps, heating circuits, etc. It can effectively control up to three different heat generators. The parameter values can be easily viewed and the control functions set via the user-friendly and clear operation directly on the device (plain text display) or remotely. The RU6 controller is part of the DEOS local and district heating control system, with particularly time-saving commissioning, pre-programmed settings, and user-friendly operation.

Heat according to demand – Overview of primary valve control via GLT

Demand-based heat control of primary valves in local heating networks is a key element in maximizing efficiency and comfort in heat supply. Primary valves are controlled in such a way that the flow rate and temperature of the heating medium (e.g., hot water) are regulated. In this project, the buildings are controlled remotely via the central building management system (BMS): REGIN’s IRMA SYSTEM is used here. The elevators and fire alarm systems are also monitored with this BMS. Operational messages from the properties are collected centrally here.

“To be honest, I wouldn’t want to be without the DEOS system, with the GLT and the R+S transfer controllers, anymore,” says Mr. Blümel.

Energy savings of up to 20%

The 14 buildings are equipped with single-pipe heating systems, which were also converted from flow control to return control during the modernization process. Pump output is now also controlled more dynamically and adapts
more optimally to changes in heating requirements. In addition to heating energy, the RU6 control system also enables significant savings in electrical energy. Compared to other locations and control solutions, WG HOT was able to save up to 20% energy thanks to the modernization measures and the DEOS system of the RU6 DDC controllers.
