Ruhr University Bochum

The founding of the RUB in 1962 marked the first establishment of a new university in the young Federal Republic of Germany. The university was built outside the city (on a greenfield site) as a campus-based university in the Querenburg district of Bochum: with the exception of a few satellite locations, all faculties are housed on the university campus.

In 2010, the newly constructed ID and IDN buildings on the Ruhr University Bochum campus were equipped with automation stations from DEOS AG. The new controllers manage and regulate all ventilation systems as well as heating and cooling for the buildings. In addition, individual room control was implemented to meet the diverse requirements of the various spaces, such as laboratories, measurement rooms, offices, lecture halls, the cafeteria, etc. A total of fifteen OPEN 4000 EMS automation stations and six OPEN 800 EMS automation stations were installed in the various information hubs of the ID and IDN buildings; these monitor approximately 12,000 physical inputs and outputs.

Across the entire project, 54,000 BACnet data points were created, of which 16,000 are currently connected to the existing higher-level building management system in the Ruhr University’s HZO building via BACnet/OPC conversion. A building management system was installed in the ID and IDN buildings to enable user-friendly operation.
