University Library

The University of Mannheim, and thus the University Library of Mannheim, were founded in 1967 and are housed in Mannheim Palace, one of Mannheim’s oldest landmarks. Due to significant fire safety deficiencies, a lack of accessibility, and technical and functional shortcomings, a comprehensive renovation of the Business Administration Library in the south wing of Mannheim Palace became necessary. During the renovation work, the new systems were equipped with DEOS building automation.

An all-air system without static heating surfaces was used for the climate control of all rooms. The 650 physical data points of the system are controlled via the energy-saving and highly efficient COBAOPT (now: OPENdynamics) control strategy.

To enable individual climate control in each room, 25 adjustable zone heating registers were installed. Comfort was significantly enhanced by the substantial reduction in airflow noise and the effective suppression of air turbulence within the rooms. Sensors also monitor room air temperature, humidity, and quality (CO2) in each room.

All physical and virtual control parameters are recorded at any desired time intervals using the DEOS building management system OPENweb. The software also monitors the central fault and alarm management system.
