580 installed DEOS TEOs save energy every day in the municipality of Wadgassen

As part of its “Smartgassen” strategy, the municipality is implementing many forward-looking projects and is breaking new ground as a local authority. The aim is to make buildings in
the municipality ‘intelligent’ and “smart” and to reduce heating costs from now on with the battery-free LoRaWAN radiator thermostat DEOS TEO.

Energy savings in 12 buildings, with 580 TEOs

Rising energy costs meant that swift action was also required in the municipality of Wadgassen. Head of administration Sebastian Greiber therefore took a close look at smart solutions for saving energy costs. The solution: DEOS TEO, the battery-free and patented wireless thermostats that are simply mounted on the radiators, replacing the old thermostats. Once replaced, the room temperature is automatically adjusted remotely via radio signal according to the time and

“With the smart DEOS TEO radiator thermostats, the heating can be adjusted to local requirements,” explains Mayor Sebastian Greiber. “This allows us to automatically lower the temperature on public holidays or during longer periods of absence, such as vacations. This prevents unnecessary heating of rooms or gyms.”

Now, significant heating energy savings are being achieved in municipal buildings—in four administrative buildings, all four elementary schools, and the four daycare centers. DEOS TEO is battery-free, requiring little maintenance and making the caretakers’ work much easier.

“Previously, our caretakers always had to be on site to adjust the radiators when, for example, a hall was rented out at the weekend or a gym was being used,” reports Greiber. Thanks to the new thermostats, settings can now be conveniently adjusted remotely, even days in advance.

DEOS TEO – cost-effective integration into the existing IoT platform

DEOS TEO uses the manufacturer-neutral and license-free LoRaWAN wireless standard. This network is as easy to set up as a Wi-Fi network, but is optimized for professional building automation. In Wadgassen, economic reasons spoke in favor of integrating DEOS thermostats into the existing IoT platform from ZENNER. If that had not been the case, the DEOS pro.Building Suite would have been a solution. The technical platform integration and the creation of customer-specific monitoring and user interfaces were handled by the Saarland-based company dimeto GmbH. DEOS TEO differs from mass-produced smart home products in many ways. In the professional building sector, for example, the particularly high LoRaWAN radio penetration of walls and ceilings speaks in favor of the clever use of DEOS TEO. DEOS TEO also impresses with its patented thermogenerator, solid design, metal housing, and vandalism protection.

The focus is on rapid implementation and energy savings.

DEOS TEO thermostats are simply screwed onto the radiators. Wireless power is supplied via the built-in, patented thermogenerator. Control and operation are managed via radio/LoRaWAN.

Further expansion planned – expansion with DEOS energy monitoring

In addition to the DEOS TEOs already installed, room sensors for more accurate temperature measurement are planned as further measures for efficient energy management and indoor climate control. CO2 sensors with corresponding monitoring and lighting control are also planned. In the future, other municipal buildings will be optimized with DEOS TEOs. The various DEOS solutions can be analyzed using DEOS energy monitoring. The
performance of the system can be easily monitored and expanded via live evaluation based on the energy data in the cloud.
